Beach Trip 2010

In honor of the grey skies and Hurricane Alex churning near Mexico this morning, I thought I would skip forward in my blogging to our beach trip just two weeks ago. Kyle and I made the 2 hour drive down to Corpus Christie/North Padre Island with Granny, PopPop, Dustin, Lisa, Caitlin, Taylor, and of course our 3 kids. The seaweed was FIERCE! It was all over the beach and also rolling in on the waves. Once we got use to it bumping into us and rubbing on our legs while we were in the water, it wasn't bad. However, it did 'chase' the kids out of the water the first hour we were there.

A friend of mine told me that a Park Ranger had told them the state was leaving the seaweed on the beach to try and control beach erosion...clever idea...but pesky. Luckily, we had a rake and took turns clearing off a path from our canopy down to the water. The neat thing about the seaweed was that small crabs would float on it and if you were lucky...and you had a net...you could scoop them off, shake them off the seaweed, and have a 'pet' for the day. None of us let the kids bring them home...mean ole' parents.

We had accidentally left the kids wave boards at home so we stopped on the way and purchased new ones. The new ones were larger than their old ones and were easier for them to float on the waves. We had good waves...especially our second day...and even I got into the wave riding. I was probably obnoxious because I would 'scream' with delight if I really caught a good wave. If you were there...and you could hear me....sorry. ;)

May Recital

Well here it is almost July and I have YET to post any pics from the kid's birthdays OR end of school year activities. I DID find the time to make a slide show of Summer's Dance Recital today...I LOVED the costumes and music for Summer's class! Their tap routine was performed to the song "Fly Me To The Moon" and their jazz/pom routine was to "Pump Up the Jam." We weren't allowed to photograph during the ACTUAL recital...just the rehearsal...and I found it funny that Summer kept looking over at me, posing for a picture! There was a professional photographer that was standing next to me and she thought that Summer was smiling at her each time...she laughed when I told her that it was actually for me because I was her mom. We had a great time and were so fortunate to have Mime, Grace, Granny, and PopPop not only join us for the recital at Texas Lutheran, but for a delicious meal at Clear Springs in New Braunfels afterward. It is safe to say that Summer felt very honored to be the center of all of our attention that day!
