Well, there are few things that say TEXAS like a stock show & rodeo. As a matter of fact, it was one of the things that we really missed when living in Alabama. Sure, there were local rodeos and some stock shows in Alabama, but nothing on the grand scale that we had grown up around. Yes, I know. That old adage that 'everything's BIGGER in Texas' strikes again. But in this case, you can't argue with me - Texans know how to hold a rodeo!

Kyle and I took the kids to see the rodeo on a Saturday night - Tim McGraw performed the concert. And I took the girls back Sunday afternoon to see Selena Gomez perform. Now, let me just say you have to have several hours to invest when you go to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. It is held in the AT&T Center (where the Spurs play) and just the walk over from the parking lot can take a while...but you can't 'do' the rodeo without taking in some of the sights. The first night we only had time to check out the petting zoo and for Luke to ride a pony. The second day we had time to go to some of the educational exhibits and catch a few of the breeder stock shows. The rodeo itself lasted 2 to 2 1/2 hours...there is the set-up for the performer (30-45 minutes)...and then the concert (at least an hour). It is an amazingly orchestrated event...do you realize the Spurs have to play out-of-town the whole time (2 weeks) the rodeo is going on? They call it the Rodeo Roadtrip! That still amazes me!
I must say that seeing some of the animals and watching the show itself gave me a bit of stock show fever. I could remember the fun that I had showing both sheep and pigs...and I hope that one day my kids can have the same experience...even if it is just Guadelupe County and not as large of a show as San Antonio.
